Founded in 1896, HAOS is the oldest amateur society of its kind in the district and one of the oldest in the country; the Society can justly be called the parent society of the amateur operatic movement in Huddersfield .

We stage our annual production at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield in November each year.

Over the years the Society has seen some of its members go to further heights - Thelma Barlow of ‘Coronation Street’ fame has played with the Society as has David Bintley (as a boy), now internationally famed for his work in the world of ballet.
