Who We Are and What We Do

Handsworth Association of Schools is an independent local charity set up to enhance the life chances of children, young people and families through educational, community and family interventions. HAOS is one of the longest standing school partnership networks in Birmingham with an active membership of over 23 schools. From our Family Hub we work by bringing communities together through partnership working with schools and established community partners to improve the lives of families.

From after school activities, exciting cultural events, learning programs, a responsive food bank and so much more, our hard-working team of committed staff and volunteers are here for families in Handsworth.

Our Work

SCHOOLS' IMPROVEMENT

We work with schools, families and young people to share learning, resources and expertise for schools' improvement. We do this through our learning networks, learning resources and curriculum enhancement initiatives that all Association members have access to.

YOUTH SOCIAL ACTION

Our popular Young People’s Parliament is the focus of our youth social action. We have a Black History Month competition each year and, through our Curriculum Enhancement programme we weave social and environmental awareness into much of our offer.

COMMUNITY WELLBEING

We have always sought to bring together local schools, businesses, charities and families in everything we do. 2020 has proved the importance of this. In setting up the Food Hub to help local families, we have seen these partnerships blossom for community benefit.
